Message from the Head of School

From the Office of the Head of School

Dear Parents / Guardians,

The end of the first semester is but a few days away, and what an amazing, fulfilling and successful semester it has been!

As one reflects on all aspects of the past five months, it can truly be said that SCIS-HQ is an incredibly busy place. With academics of course being the focal point, all the extra enrichment programs the school provides has of course met the primary mission of the school – that being a truly holistic pedagogic international experience for all.

None of this is possible without the wonderful committed teachers and administrators we have, the exceptional parental support, and not least at all, our wonderful student body. It would be nearly impossible to try and list a “Thank You” to all, but should you look back at all our past Dragon News editions, Principals Bulletins, etc., I am sure you would agree that SCIS-HQ is truly a special place.

Thank you and congratulations to all!

Our seniors have been receiving confirmation of offers to an extraordinary array of some of the world’s most reputed universities and colleges, and by February 2013, we should be in the position to announce a listing, which should make the entire SCIS-HQ very proud of our hardworking grade 12’s.

Congratulations to Mr. Jeff Smith, our current High School Vice-Principal and DP Coordinator, on being appointed Principal, of a leading international School in East Africa. Congratulations as well to Ms. Jessamine Koenig, who has been appointed as the new Vice-Principal for the High School at HQ.  News and the profile of our new High School Principal will be communicated in January.

For the 2013-2014 school years, I can confirm that the majority of our current teachers shall be returning to SCIS-HQ. We have an incredibly low international faculty turnover of just 8% for this year. It is wonderful to know that so many of our exceptional teachers wish to extend their time with us, and for me personally, it is important that we retain such talent.

A special “Thank You” to Mr. Schellenberg, Mr. Dan Kerr and Mr. Andrew Powell for the superb leadership within their divisions, this past semester, and I would to also like to acknowledge Mrs. Jane Jepson-Beal, for all the selfless work in running the “Giving Tree” program this year.

Wishing you all a wonderful, safe, and relaxing winter break and we all look forward to an exciting semester two!

Sincerely,

Dr. Rockey du Randt
